In a move to place
additional quality and value to their housing projects, the Housing Development
Corporation (HDC) has embarked on an onslaught of attractive features for house
buyers. These features include wireless
internet facility, fully furnished houses and mini libraries in the housing
estates, all at an affordable price.
Taman Sepakat Jaya II at Demak Laut, consisting of 304 units of terrace
houses, is the first medium-affordable housing area in the State to have the
wireless internet facility from TMNet.
For the upcoming new
phase of housing development at Taman Sepakat Jaya, 26 units of terrace houses
will be fully furnished. Says YB Dato
Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Minister of Housing, “This is one way to educate
house buyers on how they should decorate or furnish their houses. For those who buy these fully furnished
homes, they can just move in with a bag.”
In the wider context,
‘community bonding’ is the objective of the Ministry of Housing by ensuring that
all new housing estates in Sarawak are equipped with a mini-library. “We are not only building houses but also
promoting interaction within the community,” expressed YB Dato Sri Abang Johari
Tun Openg. The concept of
mini-libraries is derived from United Kingdom and Australia where it is known
as country libraries. The library
facility will also serve to encourage the younger generation to adopt the habit
of reading or provide them with a place to study in quiet.
Another Western
consideration by the Ministry of Housing is a construction technology from
Finland that could shorten construction period of housing projects without
sacrificing quality and cost of houses.
“The technology is widely used in Finland where it allows for fast
construction, is cost efficient and houses could be custom-designed according
to client’s choice,” stated YB Dato Sri Abang Johari Tun Open. Funding for the acquisition of this
technology has been proposed under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).
Homes of the future
are not only of steel and bricks but also of community bonding and friendly
neighborliness. By providing quality
amenities and facilities in housing projects, the Ministry of Housing and HDC
aims to create a conducive living environment, especially for the younger generations,
such that they could treat the houses as homes.
