The fast changing times require today's leader including community leaders to frequently re-examine their roles and responsibilities.
One of the phenomena of today's changing times is rapid urban development which leads to rapid urbanization and changing structures and dynamics in urban and rural communities.
In line with above scenario, the Sarawak Chief Minister's Department (Human Resource Management Unit) in collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM) is organizing a workshop on the Management of Community Leaders from 22nd to 23rd July in Kuching.
A total of 115 participants including Deputy Residents (Social), District Officers, others relevant officer from all Resident and District Offices, the State Attorney General Chamber and community leaders are expected to attend.
Among other things, the two-day workshop with the theme "Effective Grassroots Leadership in Sarawak in the 21st Century" aim to:-

Discuss ways to boost effective leadership among community leader

Enhance understanding among Administrative Officers on the policies and the processes of managing issues related to community leaders and;

to examine how today's development in urban and rural areas influence and affect the roles and functions of community leaders.
Five (5) paper will be presented during the workshop and these are on "The Evolution of the Institution of Community Leaders in the Context of Sarawak's Development", "The policies and processes on Managing Community Leaders","The Authority and Functions of Community Leaders from the Leaders from the Legal Perspective","Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (Community Leaders) as the Guardian of Native Customs and Traditions"and "The Roles of the Native Chief and Headmen in the Administration and Enforcement of Native Customary Law".
