Information
gaps have been a persistent predicament in the State's effort to disseminate
development information. Among the perceived reasons are insufficiently
maintained websites and lack of interactivity.
Among other things, these gaps
are believed to have caused the underutilization of allocated development
resources for targeted beneficiaries such as farmers and rural entrepreneurs.
As an
effort to facilitate discussions on such issues, Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak
(AZAM) in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Germany is
organizing a workshop on `Bridging Communication and Information Gaps –
Effective Information and Communication Technology (10) Utilization' which will
be held from 7 th to 8th August 2009 in Santubong, Kuching.
The main objective
of the workshop is to bring together the relevant stakeholders from all sectors
to identify challenges in disseminating development information through ICTs and
to suggest ways to overcome these challenges.
About 30
participants from various government agencies, universities, representatives of
grassroot communities, youths and ICT service providers and members of the
media are expected to attend this one and a half days workshop.
The
workshop will feature presentations on "Effective ICT Utilization in
Bridging Information Gaps" by Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS),
on "Good Practices in Maintaining Websites" by Universiti Malaysia
Sarawak (UNIMAS), and on "Public ICT Resource Centers" by Pustaka Negeri
Sarawak.
There will
also be sessions on "Changing Mindset of Rural Citizens on Utilization of
ICTs and their Beneflis" by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation
(MOSTI), and "ICT Applications for a K-Community" by Malaysian
Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS)
