Through such events, MAKSAK members would also have the opportunity to reinforce their sense of camaraderie and develop greater teamwork with each other.
The State Secretary said this when launching the ‘Sarawak Inter-Divisional MAKSAK Table Tennis Championships 2010’ at MBKS Stadium in Kuching, in October.
MAKSAK and the Kuching Ping Pong Association jointly organised the two-day tournament. Apart from Kapit, every Division sent representatives to take part in the event, where 11 teams competed for honours, including two teams from host Kuching division.
“I am confident that the spirit of healthy competition will be promoted through tournaments such as this and it is my sincere hope that more civil servants will be active in any of the sports,” said Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi, who is also MAKSAK Sarawak president.
He also believed that by taking part in such tournaments, civil servants would have the chance to enhance their communications and leadership skills, while maintaining their physical and mental well-being during the tournament.
He therefore hoped those involved in the tournament will get to know each other better, as the interactions in terms of sharing views and ideas would also help the MAKSAK members from different Divisions not only for recreational purposes, but in their professional fields, as well.
Meanwhile, the best players from the tournament will represent the State at the national-level MAKSAK table tennis tournament in Selangor in November.
The Resident of Kuching Division and MAKSAK Kuching chairman, Ir Liew Jiu Ming, was also present at the launch.
The State Secretary launched the sporting event that day by taking part in a friendly match with the Kuching Resident, who was also the chairman of the tournament organising committee.
