Sarawak Tourism Ministry’s Next Leap

Must read

To Set a One- Stop Shop for Conference Organisers

It has been identified that layers of bureaucracy and administrative procedures are among the top deterrent factors for Conferences Organisers to bring International conference into Malaysia and other Asian countries. Mdm Jill Henry, CEO of Sarawak Convention Bureau said, ‘Conference Organisers just want to have a smooth and fruitful conference without having to deal with administrative and protocol procedures’. Time is of essence for Conference Organisers and whichever destination is bidding for a conference must be able to deliver with time efficiency’.

The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions (MICE) market is going to be the next focus target for Sarawak Tourism Ministry. And, if the State wants to be competitive in the market, the MICE industry must reinvent itself on new approaches and strategies.

In analyzing the situation, Sarawak Tourism Ministry is taking a bold step to gather supports from all related agencies, private and public sectors, and get them to provide all necessary supports needed by potential Conference Organisers.

Datu Ik Pahon ak Joyik, the Permanent Secretary said ‘My Ministry will be the One-Stop Shop for Conference Organisers to place all their requirements and we will proceed to seek the supports from the related agencies’. He added. ‘This is a no easy task as alla agencies have their own policies and regulations to abide to but we need to find solutions to problems, otherwise we will be obsolete in the market’.

The MICE One-Stop Centre is to be launched by YAB Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud in conjunction with the Transforming Sarawak Tourism Performance Conference 2010 at a hotel in Kuching.
