Faradale Media-M Staff Picks Up Awards

All the winners of the ICT Awards.

KUCHING – Sarawak Information System (SAINS) together with Federation sildenafil coupon of Sarawak Journalists Associations and the Kuching Divisional Journalist Association awarded two Faradale Media-M staff the second and third prize for the Bahasa Malaysia print category at the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Media Awards Night yesterday.

Y.B. Datuk Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity & Telecommunications) & Assistant Minister of Youth Development (Rural), presented the prizes of the night, on behalf of the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Faradale Media-M’s staff, Nurul Shamsiah binti Wahi won the second prize, while Safri Ali bin Othman came in third, for their efforts. Both the articles first came out on RAKAN Sarawak, a Sarawak Civil Service publication by Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd.

Nurul’s piece was entitled ‘Kenalpasti Ancaman Keselamatan ICT Dalam System Penyampaian Kerajaan’ was her first time being awarded. Safri, who is a writer for RAKAN Sarawak, picked up the award for the second year running. His article was ‘Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia Dilengkapi System Amaran Awal Setanding Negara Luar’. To read the articles, visit RAKAN Sarawak official website.

The annual competition is open to two categories, the print media in all three languages – English and Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese – and the broadcast media as well. Each winner picks up a certificates of excellence and cash prizes amounting to RM 10,000.

The ICT Media Awards Night aims to encourage an in depth reporting on ICT stories from journalists and writers from Sarawak with an aim to promote the usage of ICT and bring awareness of its importance amongst netizens for the development of Sarawak.

The competition has just concluded its 5th year run in succession after the Chief Minister himself put out the idea in 2007.

The judges for the competition comprised of appointed representatives from ICTU, SAINS, AZAM, UNIMAS and Information Department.

The winner for the Bahasa Malaysia category, Haini binti Darani from Utusan Sarawak, for her article ‘ICT Jadikan OKU Lebih Berdaya Saing’, was awarded RM 1,000.

Meanwhile the English category winner went to Stephen Then from The Star with ‘Eye in the Sky’, followed by Angelina Liew from Happenings magazine with ‘Bringing Sarawak’s ICT to Greater Heights’ and Erny Linday from Sarawak Tribune, who came in third place with ‘Web Accessibility Vital for the Blind’.

For the Chinese category, Jap Pei Ye from See Hua Daily picked up first place with ‘Everyone No Matter Who or Where they are has Equal Opportunities to Access the Internet and Benefit from the Borderless World’, Ho Lee Peing from Sin Chew Daily came in second with ‘Is Your Child Spending Too Much Time on the Internet?’, and third place went to Ho Choon Ping, also from Sin Chew Daily, with ‘Correct Use of Facebook’.

In the broadcast category, winners were Hidayati Rakawai from Cats FM who took home RM 2,000 for his piece ‘Computer Table – Latest Gadget for Education’, Ali Omar Su’ut also from Cats FM received RM 1,200 for 2nd place, with ‘E-Perniagaan dan Pengguna Masa Depan’, and Liew Jiew Chun from RTM receives RM 800 for coming in third with his article ‘Alam IT’.
