Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) has been voted one of the 25 best International Festivals by renowned world music magazine, Songlines for the 5th consecutive year in 2014.
RWMF stands among other renowned festivals like WOMAD Australia and New Zealand, Ulsan World Music Festival, South Korea and Kriol Jazz Festival, Cape Verde among others. According to the editorial team of Songlines the “Selection of the festival is based on the broad representation of the quality and scope of music festivals around the world”.
The annual festival held in Kuching, is entering its 17th year running, has put Sarawak on the world map. It brings together performers from across the globe attracting more than 20,000 international and local festival-goers to Borneo for a three-day music workshops and with sold out night shows. This year’s event will be held from June 20 to 22.
Sarawak Tourism Board ‘s (STB) CEO YBhg Dato Rashid Khan said,” The event has no doubt been a contributor of tourist arrivals to the state and as the organizer of the festival, we are proud to note that our efforts have been recognized, not only once or twice but for 5 consecutive years. We will be putting together another great act this year ”.
Last year, total visitor recorded to Sarawak have increased 7.4 percent to 4.37 million tourist arrivals as of December 31, when compared to the same period last year. Both foreign and domestic arrivals have also increased with domestic arrivals increased up to an impressive 19% with 1.7million from 1.4million. With a host of events still to come under Visit Malaysia Year 2014, STB hopes the State will continue to attract more tourists to visit the State.
