Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Haji Satem (centre) launching the Sarawak Law Series – Land Code (with Annotations) at the new State Legislative Assembly Building today. Witnessing the launch are (from left) State Legislative Assembly Speaker YB Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and Deputy Chief Minister YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu Numpang.
Released for the first time by LexisNexis Malaysia – a leading provider of content and technology solutions – in partnership with The Sarawak State Attorney-General’s Chambers, the publication incorporates all Land Code amendments up to 1 January 2015, would serve as a reference for all legal practitioners, land administrators and others whose work involves dealing with land and application of the Land Code, enabling them to have a better understanding of the land administration system and laws related to land in Sarawak.
The Sarawak Land Code is a piece of legislation that reflects the historical development of the State’s land administration system since the arrival of the first White Rajah in 1841, and customs and traditional way of life of its multi-ethnic communities, though only including provisions facilitating the rapid social and economic changes and progress enjoyed by the State since 1 January 1958 when the law was implemented.
Enacted during the colonial administration, the Land Code had undergone multiple amendments; however, no revisions were made under the Revision of Laws Ordinance, 1993. The last official version was released by the Government in 1999 and republished by the State Attorney-General’s Chambers in 2003.
