The state-level National Day celebrations is set to take place at Limbang Division on 31 August.
Second Minister for Resource Planning and Environment, YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan announced this in a press conference, held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.
“To mark the occasion, lots of activities have been planned and will be organised starting from 28 until 31 August,” said the Minister when chairing the main committee meeting here.
One of the main activities that will be organised is a thanksgiving ceremony that will take place in the evening of 30 August at Limbang Divisional Mosque with the Head of State, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and other notable guests expected to attend.
There will be an Ambang Merdeka concert featuring performances by famous local artistes right up to midnight to usher in the National Day, culminating with some fireworks display.
The Information Department’s Kembara Merdeka Kempen Jalur Gemilang convoy will join the event there and to be involved in the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) ceremony.
YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah added also that on August 31, the highlights of the celebration will be the parade at Padang Sukan Limbang in the morning which begins with a mass Zumba event and Merdeka Run.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force is also expected to deliver an air show while Malaysian Armed Forces will present an unarmed combat display.
Meanwhile, the minister said on August 28, a showcase by entrepreneurs (showcase usahawan) and Limbang Kitchen will be opened to the public until August 31. The showcase will offer various local products including handicraft, cakes and varieties of food and drinks.
Also in the afternoon of August 31, power boat race and regatta would take place at the Limbang River and the highlight will be the race for the Raja Batang Limbang title.
The Minister also called on owners of the shops, buildings and government buildings to hoist the state and national flags to mark the celebration.
Also present at the meeting were Assistant Minister for Bumiputera Entrepreneurs and Assistant Minister for Resource Planning YB Datuk Haji Mohd. Naroden Majais, Deputy State Secretary YBhg Datu Haji Misnu Haji Taha and Limbang Resident Maria Hasman.
