Director of Payment Systems Policy Department Tan Nyat Chuan from Bank Negara Malaysia opening the 2015 National e-Payment Roadshow at Pullman Hotel, Kuching yesterday. This is the fifth pit stop following Penang (May), Johor (June), Kelantan (June) and Sabah (August), and before Kuala Lumpur (October) this year.
Themed “Moving Forward with e-Payment”, the roadshow events aim to create awareness of the developments in the payment industry and to educate the public on e-payment services in facilitating an accelerated migration to e-payments especially for small and medium-sized businesses and individuals intend on reaping the benefits of cost savings and enhancing competitiveness.
Jointly organised by Bank Negara Malaysia, Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM), Association of Islamic Banks in Malaysia (AIBIM) and National Cards Group (NCG), today’s roadshow featured talks by members of the banking industry on payment card acceptance, fund transfer services via ATM and online channels, and safety tips and best practices for online banking.
An exhibition, participated by 17 banks, was also organised in at the roadshow with the likes of Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS), Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear), SME Corporation Malaysia, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) and two third-party acquirers, namely GHL and ManagePay, among others to showcase a range of payment solutions from payment cards to point-of-sale terminals and internet banking facilities on offer.
Panellists involved in the events aside Tan Nyat Chuan were Group Managing Director of MEPS Zulkanain Kassim, Executive Director of ABM Chuah Mei Lin, Chairman of NCG B. Ravintharan and Deputy Director of MyClear Mat Saad Bakar.
