HR Value Creation Seminar

Must read

A seminar on human resources (HR) earlier this week serves as an indication of the government’s commitment in developing the future leaders of its civil service.

The seminar, which began Sunday evening and concluded on Monday, became a rare opportunity for some 350 participants from both the public and private sectors to have an audience with Professor Dave Ulrich, who is the Rensis Likert professor at Ross School of Business in University of Michigan.

In his speech, the State Secretary mentioned that he hopes that through this seminar, the State Government will embark on a journey to transform their perspective and open up new ways of doing things.

“Our transformation is all about changing our perspectives so that our work culture can transcend to a much higher level,” he said.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani also emphasised that the session was an opportunity for the exchange of ideas between the public and private sector.

The programme, hosted by the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service formerly known as Centre of Modern Management, and funded by the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) under the federal Ministry of Human Resources.

The speaker was ranked ‘Number One’ among the “Most Influential International Thought Leader in HR’ by HR Magazine in 2011. He also boasts other accolades, among them the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from HR Magazine in 2012 for being the ‘Father of Modern Human Resources’.

His presentation themed ‘Human Resource Value Creation: Perspective, Outcomes, Transformation’ in which, he emphasised that the new trend in HR was creating value from the outside in and connecting with key stakeholders of the organisation and the community at large.

An interesting comment Prof. Dr. Dave pointed out was, “HR is not solely about HR”.

“The outcome of HR value creation is in recognising its importance in building talents and leadership competencies which can be instilled towards a desired culture,” he said.
