The celebration which will take place at Kuching Waterfront on Friday, 22 July 2016 marks the first time in history the event is being held on the day that has been declared as a public holiday by the Chief Minister in May this year.
The celebration will feature presentations and an exhibition chronicling the history of Sarawak from the Bruneian Empire to the British administration before being granted self-government status on 22 July 1963, followed by the formation of the Malaysian federation with Malaya, North Borneo (Sabah) and Singapore on 16 September 1963.
Sarawak Governor His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Haji Satem are expected to be present at the celebration.
