11th BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Meeting

The two-day event that began on 25 October aimed for delegates from member countries of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) to discuss extensively on transport-related issues in relation to BIMP-EAGA development.

Ministers from member countries have released a joint statement following the meeting; highlights include progress in the implementation of measures under the Implementation Blueprint 2012-2016 to improve transport connectivity in BIMP-EAGA, finalisation for endorsement on the transport sector strategic priorities under the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025 (BEV2025), and success on the BIMP-EAGA Air Linkages Roundtable leading to the upcoming signing of the Protocol to Amend the MOU on Expansion of Air Linkages later in November 2016 during the 22nd ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Philippines.

They have also launched the BIMP-EAGA Drivers’ Log Book after the meeting; the log book is published to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers as part of monitoring mechanism in the implementation of the MOU on the Cross-Border Movement of Buses and Coaches signed back in 2007.
