Sarawak CMIEA 2017 to Recognise Companies in the Manufacturing and Service Sectors

In support with the state government’s mission to accelerate the development of Sarawak, the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Industry Excellence Awards (CMIEA) 2017, aims to recognise outstanding companies in the manufacturing and service industries.

As the first state to introduce the CMIEA as a public-private endeavour, the new award programme is managed by the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) and jointly organised by the Sarawak State Government, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).

With the tagline ‘Productivity for Prosperity’, the Sarawak State Secretary YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani said that the launching of Sarawak CMIEA 2017 aims to strengthen the government agenda on enhancing the nation’s productivity.

“Productivity, a key to sustaining a business, is about achieving maximum efficiency and effectiveness through creating higher value products to customer,” he said.

According to the president of SBF YB Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Abang Haji Openg the award programme is also intended to promote excellence and stimulates positive competition as well as showcasing achievements attained by outstanding bushiness in the manufacturing and service sectors.

For the evaluation process, the Sarawak CMIEA 2017 uses the Malaysia Business Excellence Framework (MBEF) for the benchmark criteria.

According to the Sarawak State Secretary, the framework is use to organise a systematic review of various organisational practices and permitting comparisons to be made among similar or different kinds of organisations.

The CMIEA award consist of four categories; Category 1 (Micro), Category 2 (Small), Category 3 (Medium) and Category 4 (Large) for companies with sales turnover ranging from RM300, 000 to RM20 million.

Set to be held on September 8th 2017 in conjunction with SBF first anniversary, the award programme is calling for entries to participate in the Sarawak CMIEA 2017. The deadline for submission is on July 11th 2017.
