Must read

To mark the serious intention of providing water supply and electric coverage to the State especially within the rural areas, the Minister of Utilities Sarawak has rebrand itself by launching a new logo on August 16th at Bangunan Pelita, The Isthmus.

During the launching ceremony of the new logo of Minister of Utilities Sarawak, its Minister YB Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Utom said that among the plans to ensure the people in the rural areas receive treated water supply and electric coverage is through the Sarawak Alternative Rural Water Supply (SAWAS) and Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) programme

According to him, the coverage on electric supply to rural areas is around 87 per cent where through SARES, the State hopes to achieve 100 per cent coverage by 2025.

Through SAWAS, YB Dato Sri Stephen Rundi said that the membrane filtration method will be applied to ensure the water supply is safe for consumption.

In ensuring the State has reliable water sources, YB Dato Sri Stephen Rundi and that they will also be looking into getting raw water sources from hydro dams and water grid for Sarawak.

“The water grid for Sarawak requires a big budget and might require slightly longer time to plan, however we should look at this matter as something that can be solved as water is a necessary commodity,” he said adding that Sarawak non-revenue water (NRW) is 61 per cent, higher compared to other states.

For a better billing system, YB Dato Sri Stephen Rundi added that they will also be looking into implementing smart billing system where the bills can be sent directly to the customer’s smartphone.
