Themed ‘Disruptive Change: Impact and Challenges’, over 2,500 participants converged at the 13th edition of World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) on November 21st at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
The three days forum brings industry leaders and academic experts together to address the impact and challenges of disruptive changes across the breadth of industries, technology and politics for a sustainable business landscape.
To achieve the goal of becoming a high income status nation by 2020, Malaysia Prime Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak said the nation have to adjust the policies or loses the competitive edge and overtaken by other countries.
“In order to benefit and be at the forefront of disruptive changes, our education system must be revamped to prepare for what will swiftly be a very different world,”
“We must equipped our young people with higher order thinking skills, so that they are open-minded, creative and innovative, and ready to adapt to the jobs that aren’t yet even in existence,” said Malaysia Prime Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak in his keynote address during the opening session of WIEF on November 21st.
With the aim to become one of the top 20 economies in the world by 2050 through the national Development Initiative, Transformasi Nasional (TN50), he added that the government is emphasizing on innovation and creativity, science, technology, engineering and maths, coding and computer science as well as technical and vocational training.
In Sarawak aspiration to transform the economy capitalising on digital technology, Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg said the theme is well-aligned to the transformation of Sarawak’s economy.
“Sarawak is not spared from this disruptive change and we must equip ourselves with necessary skills and knowledge to face the impacts and challenges brought about by disruptive change,”
“As the Chief Minister of Sarawak, I have personally driven our efforts to leapfrog the State’s development through the Digital Economy. I believe, the Digital Economy will generate new jobs and opportunities for our entrepreneurs by creating greater efficiency in the way we do business. The enhancement in our economy will accelerate the growth, increase our wealth and turn Sarawak into a developed and high income State by 2030,” said YAB Datuk patinggi (Dr) Abang haji Abdul Rahman Zohari.
