As the ones who discover and develop Malaysia’s potential athletes, coaches at the grass root level should be given focus in terms of sports education, for they are among the most important contributors to the country’s pool of sporting talents, according to Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.
“We must give them the tools and knowledge they need so that they can be even better at finding new talent for the future,” he said in his speech read by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports YB Datuk Haji Abdul Rahman Hamzah at the 5th International Seminar on Sports and Exercise Psychology (ISSEP) 2018 in Kuching on 6th February 2018.
He therefore believed that ISSEP 2018 provides coaches the opportunity to gain and exchange new skills and know-how for future application in their coaching process, and to establish networks with sports experts as well as among themselves.
Meanwhile, themed “Enhancing Sports and Exercise Psychology in Sports, Physical Education, Physical Activities and Health”, the two-day seminar (6th and 7th February 2018) serves as an international platform for academicians, researchers and sports practitioners to exchange current knowledge and ideas based on interdisciplinary research and practices in the fields of Sports and Exercise Psychology.
It also focuses on the contribution of sports psychology in improving the performance and developing athletes and non-athletes through various researches and applied topics presented by about 60 oral and poster presenters from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.
With over 200 participants including coaches and students, the seminar provides networking, collaboration and interaction opportunities among the presenters and participants towards progress and innovation in Sports and Exercise Psychology.
