During the launching ceremony of Sarawak Dialogue 2018 on February 26th, Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg said that the State has an obligation to contribute in preserving the environment.
In environment conservation, the State has a holistic approach in managing the environment which includes making sure that 80 per cent of the landmass must be covered by primary and secondary forest.
He also added that to ensure sustainable timber industry, the State is looking at industrial forest to preserve natural resources.
Themed ‘The Bridge to New Beginnings’, dialogue is attended by about 250 international delegates and focuses on four key sectors; tourism, health, education and digital economy.
The inaugural Sarawak Dialogue 2018 in Kuching presented itself as an opportunity to explore new ideas as the State is facing changes in the social and economic landscape.
Held from February 26 to 28, the dialogue aims to engage experts in various fields and also see what Sarawak can do in preparing itself against the changing worldwide landscape.
Among the speakers invited for the dialogue included Sarawak State Secretary YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani; Group CEO of AirAsia, Tony Fernandes; Chairman of Bernama Malaysia Datuk Seri Azman Ujang; 500 Startup Silicon Valley Managing Partner, Khailee Ng; CEO of MATRADE Malaysia Ir. Dr. Mohd Shahreen Zainooreen Madros.
