The state-level Women’s Day celebration saw the launching of the ‘Sarawak Women and Wellness’ book by Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.
The book featured 18 personalities of women in Sarawak who have dedicated their time and passion in helping people through health-related non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
“The theme Sarawak Women and Wellness was chosen this year as we recognised the importance of health and wellness agenda among all walk of life,”
This was said by Minister for Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development YB Dato Sri Hajjah Fatimah Abdullah in her speech on 3rd November 2018 at Penview Convention Centre Kuching (PCCK).
Among the personalities that are featured in the book includes president of Anti Tuberculosis Association of Sarawak, Datin Louise Luncha Kanyan; president of Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society, Jocelyn Hee; president of Sarawak AIDS Concern Society Dr Yuwana Podin; president of Sarawak Midwives Association, Rosena Abdul Ghani; president of Sarawak Nursing Profession Association, Lee Na and founding member of Sarawak Hospice Society, Dr Beena Devi CR.
The state level Women’s Day celebration also saw midwives from the 1950s received certificate of appreciation.
They were Hajah Hajijah binti Haji Ibrahim, Baun Balan, Asong Lenjau, Hajah Aben binti Haji Aneh, Emily Lee Shui Eng, Catherine Nanang, Catherine Likup, Muda Raja, Gong King Lui, Ngieng Suk Ding, Dayang Aminah binti Abang Jas, the late Christina Anak Sap (represented by her daughter, Theresa Anak Jita) and Monica Lime Bakar.
During the event, the Chief Minister’s wife’s Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang received the ‘Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib’ award.
