With Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (Sarawak TROPI) being a prominent player in tropical peat soil research since its establishment in 2008, Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg commended the institute, led by its director Dr Lulie Melling, for its unwavering efforts towards the betterment of agricultural science and the people of Sarawak.
In his remarks during its 10th anniversary dinner at Sarawak TROPI Complex in Kota Samarahan on 21st November 2018, the Chief Minister reasserted the State Government’s commitment towards supporting Sarawak TROPI.
For that, he announced an allocation of RM5 million to enable the institute to continue their research and development on tropical peat soil.
In relation, he expressed that the State Government will provide funding for Sarawak TROPI to publish a compilation of journals and scientific research conducted by the institute. He hoped that this publication can be made widely available to create more awareness of the nature of tropical peat soil to the general public.
