Web-Based System SWIS Launched for Workforce Planning

Must read

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research Sarawak (MESTR) has launched its pioneer project on Sarawak Workforce Information System (SWIS) last weekend.

SWIS is a web-based system to capture the current and projected workforce supply and demand in Sarawak.

Data will be collected from educational and training institutions for workforce supply as well as from members of industry and commerce for workforce demand.

Through SWIS, the data collection system is set to help provide collection of data which is comprehensive, systematic and reliable for analysis.

“One of the major challenges that we face in undertaking workforce planning is the unavailability of data. It has been very difficult to collect on workforce demand as well as supply,” said Minister for Education, Science and Technological Research YB Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong in his speech.

To address this problem, MESTR has collaborated with SAINS to develop SWIS which will be both beneficial to both industries and institutions in meeting workforce demand and supply.

“However, the success of the system depends very much on the willingness of the institutions and industries to provide the data. All source data will be kept safe and securely in the database with strictly controlled access,” said YB Dato Sri Michael Manyin.

To-date, MESTR has trained a total of 243 personnel from the industries and institutions on SWIS with 217 companies and institutions registered.

The launching ceremony of SWIS was officiated by the Sarawak Chief Minister in conjunction with ScaTFair 2019 on 16th March 2019 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
