The Nightly Heritage Showcase kicked start with the Unity of Diversity Heritage Showcase featuring a memorable dance play ‘Tari Juwita’ on the night of 25th March at the Waterfront Kuching.
‘Tari Juwita’ tells the tale of a love story between a Malay girl Juwita and an Iban man, Aruk, combining traditional dances of Zapin (Malay), Kanjeng Ngeleput (Iban), Rajang Beuh (Bidayuh), Alu-Alu (Melanau), and the fan dance (Chinese).
The showcase which aimed in creating awareness on retaining the arts in Sarawak was participated by 120 dancers.
Apart from that, the audience was also entertained with other traditional dances such as Bergendang and Bermukum, which is usually seen in traditional Malay weddings and also Sarawak traditional martial art performances such as Silat and Kuntau Dayak.
The Unity of Diversity Heritage Showcase is organised by the Commission of The City of Kuching North with the Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe) and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) from 25th to 31st March 2019.
