Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions are advised to take extra precautions as they might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19

The Covid-19 pandemic is impacting people of all ages and background globally.

However, based on reports, older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

Here are some advices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to older people and adults with underlying medical conditions.

If you are an older adult or have underlying medical conditions, it is advisable to practice social distancing and avoid public gathering as well as other unnecessary public activities.

Instead, try to socialize via phone with family members or friends.

Another tip is to shop online for grocery shopping or other essentials.

You may also ask help from family members, neighbours or e-hailing services to help you do your shopping.

Try to keep the house stocked with at least two weeks’ worth of essential food, supplies and medicine.

Older people and adults with underlying medical conditions are also advised to wash their hands frequently, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and to cough and sneeze into flexed elbows or tissues.
