If you are searching for ways to boost your brain power, consider picking up video games.

Various studies have shown that despite the negative connotation attached to it, gaming can be advantageous to our mental capability.

For one, it enhances our coordination and multitasking skills, because playing video games generally involves utilising our visual, auditory and physical movements simultaneously.

Good video games, in particular, allow players to concentrate on achieving certain goals within a stage. They also test players’ problem-solving skills through puzzles or scenarios set out in order to advance to the next level.

When we play them frequently, video games enable us to improve our brain speed and memory. As they require players to process sensory information and make decisions promptly and rapidly, these games can motivate us to reduce our reaction time.

Gaming also enhances our ability to work and communicate with others, especially in multi-player online games where succeeding a mission involves strong cooperation between team players. Subsequently, players can establish meaningful relationships with each other outside the game.

However, to reap the benefits of gaming, it is important to do it moderately. This is because becoming addicted to video games can be detrimental to our physical, mental and emotional health.
