160 Civil Servants Received Honour For Long Service

Congratulations to all the recipients of the Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia.

The Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg officiated the award presenting ceremony that held at the Purnama Hotel in Limbang on 18 August 2022.

Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia is a medal awarded by the Sarawak State Government as a token of gratitude towards a Civil Service Personnel who has served for 20 continuous or 25 accumulated years of service.

The award presenting ceremony was the third one to be held for this year.

The first and second Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia award ceremonies were held in Bintulu and Mukah in February and March respectively this year.

For the ceremony, 160 recipients from 11 departments and agencies, from both federal (3) and state (8) were invited to receive the honour for their long service.

Also present during the ceremony was the Sarawak State Secretary, YB Dato Sri Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar Bin Marzuki.

Among the recipients of the Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia was Director of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Ir. Ahmad Denney Bin Ahmad Fauzi for his 32 years of public service.

Also receiving the honour was Limbang district officer, Mr Superi Bin Awang Said and Lawas district officer, Mr Ladin Bin Atok for their 29 years and 26 years of service respectively.

In addition to this, the award ceremony also honours the recipients who were in the public service for more than 35 years. They are;

History of Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia

  • Began during the Brooke era and was known as the ‘Long Service Decoration’ medal
  • In 1946, it was renamed as ‘Long Service Badge’ after the cession of Sarawak to Britain
  • In 1963, the badge was renamed ‘Long Service Medal’ or ‘Pingat Perkhidmatan Lama’ after the independence of Sarawak within the formation of Malaysia
  • On 24th May 1996, medal’s name was changed again to the ‘Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia’, in accordance of Surat Pekeliling (Bil.Perj.19/96), dated 24 May 1996
  • In 2008, the ribbon medal was introduced for female recipients
  • In 2010, Royal Malaysian Police (Polis Diraja Malaysia) personnel became eligible to receive the medal for the first time
