Redefining Sustainability in Environmental Stewardship

The number of participants in the 10th Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA) 2021/2022 has increased by 36 per cent from 106 participants as compared to 144 entries in the 9th CMEA 2019/2020.

Present during the award ceremony was the Sarawak Premier who in his speech said that being the recipients of PSEA means receiving the State’s recognition for participating industries, organisations and individuals for their commitment in reducing the impact of their operations on the environment, embracing environmental stewardship and engaging themselves in sustainable development.

“And to all the participants, congratulation for subscribing to continuous environmental initiatives and advocate sustainable green initiatives in daily operations, activities, and work place,”

“The Awards also serve to create environmental awareness among enterprises that have yet to demonstrate stewardship and identify areas for improvement in environmental management,” said the Premier of Sarawak in his speech during the event on 14December 2022 in Kuching.

“It also aims to convey the message across multi stakeholders on the importance of environmental sustainability for Sarawak’s sustainable development,” said YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abanh Haji Openg.

He also noted that the effort is aligned with the world movement in realising the Sustainable Development Goal 2030 (SDG2030), as well as, Sarawak aspiration to be a developed State by 2030 that pursue a balanced economic growth with a responsible approach towards utilization of natural resources and integration of climate adaptation and mitigations plans.

Participants include industries, local authorities, government sectors, teams/individuals, eateries and food outlets, demonstrating exemplary environmental protection stewardship.

By taking part in the Award:

  1. organisations will receive technical guidance on environmental related matters affecting and impacting their business;
  2. the organisation will receive a free consultation and advice on related environmental laws and their compliance;
  3. management and staff of an organisation will have a better understanding of environmental issues;
  4. the organisation will demonstrate to all parties (for example, their customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies) their commitment to environmental performance; and
  5. Finalists will receive independent assessments of their environmental performance, and the winners will, of course, enjoy the prestige associated with PSEA Award holders.

The biennially PSEA provides an avenue for the industries, businesses, local authorities, eateries and food outlets and the individuals to demonstrate their corporate environmental responsibility in showcasing their organizational green initiatives in reducing carbon footprints in their production processes and operations.

Representative from Hilton Kuching receving the Gold Award for the Medium Enterprise category
Representative from Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn Bhd receving the Gold Award for the Medium Enterprise category

●   A trophy and Certificate of Achievement for Champion for each respective main category based on the assessment among the Gold Award winner on:

  • X-Factor/ Special Project
  • Innovation (creativity)
  • Impact (High impact Environmental Sustainability)

●   A trophy and Certificate of Achievement for Gold Award winner;

●   A plaque and Certificate of Achievement for Merit Award winner;

●   Eligibility to use the Award’s logo for publicity purposes with no expiry timeframe;

●   Recognition as an exemplary organisation committed to environmental protection; and

●   There is a 50% discount for course fees for one environmental protection/awareness programme organised by the NREB for two (2) persons. This discount is valid for two (2) years following the Award (Champion and Gold winners).
