The Sarawak Government through the Ministry of Utilities has introduced the CCGFA for low-income households in the urban areas in Sarawak.
- Background of CCGFA
The Connection Charges Government Financial Assistance (CCGFA) was introduced as a financial assistance to low-income homeowners in the urban areas for electricity connection.
It complements the Sarawak Government’s initiatives for rural area under its various Project Rakyat schemes such as the Additional Late Applicant Funds (ALAF) and Rural Electrification Schemes (RES).
- What is the objective of CCGFA?
CCGFA is one of the initiatives by the State Government to ease the burden of low-income group in the urban areas by ensuring that every household is connected with electric supply.
- When was it first introduced and who are the targeted groups of applicants?
The scheme was introduced in 2020 for low-income group in the urban areas.
The targeted applicants are those with houses under the local municipal councils and are in need of single-phase connection with loading of up to 10kVA.
- What is the allocation for this scheme?
RM15 million was allocated in the year 2020 and 2021, with another RM10 million in 2022.
- Who is the implementing agency?
The State Government through the Ministry of Utilities implement the initiative with Sarawak Energy as the implementing agency.
- What is the process for applying CCGFA?
Sarawak Energy will process all applications for electricity supply and will automatically give subsidy to all eligible customers.
- What are the eligible criteria for applying CCGFA?
The connection charges of RM5, 000 and below is free. If the cost is between RM5, 000 to RM10, 000, the State Government will bear 70 per cent of the cost while the remaining 30 per cent by will paid by the applicant.
The subsidy is for low-income group in the urban areas (those under the purview of Local Municipal Councils) for single-phase electricity connection with loading of up to 10kVA.
The applicant must be the owner of the premise and have no existing active account with SESCO.

- How many has benefited from this scheme since it was first introduced?
Since it was introduced in 2020 until September 2021, the scheme has benefitted 3500 applicants.
The State Government ensures the effectiveness of the programme through periodic review and updating of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as needed to facilitate and ease the process for power supply connection for low-income households in urban areas.
