Piped Natural Gas Supply to Provide Clean Energy to Traders

On the 4 February 2022 saw the launch of the first phase of the piped natural gas supply at Medan Saberkas Miri.

A pilot project by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) through its subsidiary Sarawak Gas Distribution Sdn Bhd and Miri City Council (MCC), it is set to benefit 67 traders through the provision of clean, reliable and affordable energy source.

In his speech read by Deputy Premier YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Premier of Sarawak YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg stated that the initiative represents PETROS’s commitment to maximise productive impacts within the Miri community, and marks a crucial progress of the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR).

“The provision of piped gas supply to Medan Saberkas Miri is the latest initiative under the big umbrella of PCDS (Post-COVID Development Strategy) 2030 to benefit small and medium traders.

“The spirit of cooperation and collaboration by all parties over the implementation of this pilot project demonstrates how we tackle the energy trilemma – ensuring energy security, sustainability, and affordability for the Miri community,” he said.
