The “Kembara Kenali Borneo” by their majesties the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah to Sarawak will give the opportunities for their majesties to experience Sarawak’s multi-cultural and multi-religious heritage, said State Secretary, YB Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki.
The “Kembara Kenali Borneo” from 3 to 13 September, starting in Tawau, Sabah and ending in Telok Melano, Sarawak, will record historic moment and unique experience of programmes rich in customs, culture and tribal handicrafts scheduled with the people.
Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar disclosed that for their majesties visit to Sarawak, starting from Lawas right up to Telok Melano, which is scheduled from 7-13 September, 2023, Sarawak government has arranged wide range of programmes for their majesties to visit various ethnic groups during the tour.
“This is best opportunity for Sarawak to showcase its rich racial diversity and also to showcase Sarawak as a role model for the whole country for its religious tolerance and racial harmony,” said Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar to the media after paying a courtesy call on acting Head of State Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar at the Astana on 5 September 2023.
Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar, who is also the chairman of the organising committee of their majesties visit to Sarawak, stressed that the Sarawak government will also include some official programmes for their majesties during their stay.
He added that during the journey, their majesties would also have the opportunities to mingle with the people from all walks of life and will have a first-hand experience of their livelihood.
“Their majesties will also have the opportunities to see for themselves the basic needs of the rural populace such as roads, bridges, jetties and roadside stalls,” he said.
“But their visit this time is just ‘santai’ meaning not so official, as they want to reach out to the ordinary people,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State Secretary hoped that other federal leaders will follow the example shown by their majesties to visit the people at the grassroots levels.
“To me, what His Majesty is doing now must be emulated by other top federal leaders to touch base with the rakyat in Sarawak,” he added.
