Volunteerism Alive in Miri

Must read

Volunteers and
voluntary organizations in Miri City had been given a bonus with the launching
of a One-Stop Volunteer Centre by the Ministry of Social Development &
Urbanization. Located on the second
floor of the Miri Civic Centre, the One-Stop Volunteer Centre is the state
government’s effort to raise public awareness of the importance of volunteerism
in the social development of a nation, and thereby building up a civilized and humane
society.

The One-Stop
Volunteer Centre is as its name suggests, a central place that provides
one-stop services for the recruitment and registration of volunteers, and it
could also be utilized as an operation centre for various voluntary organizations. Volunteers could choose to be involved in
any field of social work that holds their interest – children, family,
community, sport & recreation, senior citizen, destitute, women, fund
raising, disabled, teenagers/ juvenile, and natural disaster.

Various volunteerism activities were planned by
the Ministry of Social Development & Urbanization at the recent launching
of the One-Stop Volunteer Centre in Miri, which was held in conjunction with
the State-level Volunteerism Week. The
events organized to highlight the occasions included fun and exciting
activities such as a 1.5km charity run, exhibition, flea market, food fair,
blood donation drive and aerobic exercises.
At present, there are four One-Stop Volunteer Centres in Sarawak,
located in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and the latest in Miri.
