Increase in Allowances

In recognition
of the community leaders’ contribution to Sarawak’s development, the State
Government has decided to increase their monthly allowance starting 2006.
Grassroots commmunity leaders have proven effective in the tasks of
disseminating information on the State’s developments programmes and explaining
government policies to the local communities that they represent.

The Chief
Minister, YAB Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud announced the new increment at the special
dinner of community leaders from all races with Prime Minister, Datuk Patinggi
Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, held at Dewan Santapan. Kuching on 18^th
of April 2006.

In his
speech, YAB Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud expressed his hope that all community leaders
will be further motivated and inspired to remain committed to their important
task of bridging the information gap between the government and their
respective communities’ with regards to Sarawak’s development policies and
programs.
