Must read

The largest infrastructure project in the State of
Sarawak under Ninth Malaysia Plan, worth about RM420 million, includes a
network of roads and bridges that will link Sibu and Tanjung Manis. This raises
the profile of the two areas as an economic hub in the Central region of
Sarawak.

The Second Finance Minister and Minister of Urban Development and
Tourism, YB Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said that this linkage between Tanjung Manis
and Sibu townships will intensify the development of Sibu as the major commercial
centre in the Central Region while at the same time, boosting economic
activities in the new townships in Tanjung Manis.

The project is divided into two packages costing RM260
million and RM160 million, respectively.

According to Dato Sri Wong, the contract includes the
construction of a 48 km road and will include five bridges. The longest bridge
will span 1,240 metres crossing Sungai Lebaan. The project is estimated to be
completed in 48 months.
