Through Entrepreneurship

The Sarawak Women’s Bureau, Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation, Sarawak will be organizing the “Empowering Women Through Entrepreneurship” on Saturday, 27 March 2010 at Grand Margherita Hotel Kuching.  Co-organised with Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) and the U.S Embassy Kuala Lumpur, this interactive session aims to empower women to advance themselves economically and socially with the belief that empowering women will have a positive impact on their families, communities, societies and country.

This event will be facilitated by Ms. Whitney Keyes, a guest speaker brought to Malaysia under a US Department of State Speaker program.  She is an international author, business advisor and digital media personality. Ms. Keyes has previously served as a senior marketing manager and company spokesperson with Microsoft.  She developed many of the company’s global marketing campaigns and won two awards from the International TV Association for writing and producing a commercial for Microsoft.  After leaving Microsoft in 2004, she started WMK Productions, a company that creates strategic management and communication training solutions for organizations worldwide.

Ms. Keyes has served on the board of the Dress for Success Seattle, assisting disadvantaged women, is currently a mentor for high school students through the YWCA’s Girls First Program and is a co-host as well as executive producer of WhitneyandWyatt.com, a TV-style talk show for women on the web.  Over the years, she has volunteered for various nonprofit organizations including Chaya, serving South Asian women in times of crisis and need.

Among the topics that will be covered in this program include social entrepreneurship, marketing, media and networking.  There will also be an interactive session with Ms. Keyes where participants will be asked to highlight their main challenges as women entrepreneur.

The program is targeted at women entrepreneurs only.  Admission is free and is by registration only.  Space is limited and will be on a first-come, first- serve basis.  Interested individuals are encouraged to register with the Sarawak Women’s Bureau.  For more detailed information, kindly contact Herlina Ajaib Jamahari, Assistant Director of the Sarawak’s Women’s Bureau at 082-446980.
