JKR Betong Road Projects

The Public Works Department or Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Betong administrative division was formed on 26 March 2002.

The administrative of JKR Betong is headed by Divisional Engineer and assisted by various categories of staffs ranging from professional to support groups.

JKR Saratok is its administrative district, headed by the District Engineer.

During a recent trip to Betong, RAKAN Sarawak met up with Divisional Engineer of Public Works Department (JKR) of the Division, Chiresly Ak Francis Kureng at the JKR office
Chiresly explaining about the proposed Jalan Ulu Paku/Ulu Gerenjang/Ulu Krian/Ulu Kota (Phase 1) and the proposed Jalan Penom/Ulu Bayor/Danau (Phase 1) road projects handled by JKR Betong Division. He noted that both projects will be completed by this year
With a stretch of 6.921 kilometres, the proposed Jalan Ulu Paku/Ulu Gerenjang/Ulu Krian/Ulu Kota road project was reported to be behind schedule due to poor performance of previous contractor
The first of three bridges at Jalan Ulu Paku/Ulu Gerenjang/Ulu Krian/Ulu Kota which is said to be 16 metres long and to be completed by August 2022
The second project, Jalan Penom/Ulu Bayor/Danau is also reoorted to be 45 per cent behind schedule due to land acquisition (land resolved), Covid-19 pandemic, weather issue, insufficient machineries and poor performance of sub-contractors at the early stage
With a stretch of 7.43 metre in length and 4.5 metres in width, the scope of work for Jalan Penom/Ulu Bayor/Danau includes drainage and bridge work of 36 metre in length and 3.7 metre in width
