The Raja Permaisuri Agong’s Official Visit to Kuching

The Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah arrived in Sarawak on 28 March 2022 for a three-day official visit.

Tunku Azizah’s itinerary for the three days lists the official opening of the ‘Songket and Keringkam Gallery’ at Jalan Masjid here, a grand welcoming dinner at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Complex, as well as a royal visit to the Songket Weaving Workshop at Puncak Borneo Prison and stop-over at the Borneo Cultures Museum.

The afternoon of the first day saw the opening ceremony of Sarawak Songket and Keringkam Gallery officiated by the Raja Permaisuri Agong. During the event, Her Majesty visited a gallery depicting the history of songket and keringkam in Sarawak and witnessed the songket and keringkam weaving processes, among others. The Raja Permaisuri Agong began her second day in Kuching with a visit to the Songket Sarawak Prison Department (SaraPride) Industrial Vocational Centre at Puncak Borneo Prison Complex. During her visit, the Raja Permaisuri Agong had the opportunity to speak to songket weavers as well as representative prison officers regarding the centre, which came about following Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani’s courtesy call on Her Majesty at Istana Negara in June 2019 to visit the Tenun Pahang Diraja weaving workshop at Betong Prison in Pahang.
