Tourism, art and culture sector to open starting tomorrow

Art-217-16062020The tourism, art and culture sector is allowed to resume operation on 17th June but with strict adherence to the SOP set by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC)

The activities under tourism, art and culture sector is allowed to reopen by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) starting 17th June.

According to its minister, YB Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the sector will resume in accordance with the SOP set by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC).

Here are some of the highlights for outdoor activities under the tourism, art and culture sector:

  1. Tour operators, tour guides, homestays, hotels, adventure and extreme tourism, scuba diving and snorkelling, and theme parks (dry park only) will be allowed to operate with compliance to the SOP and guidelines established by SDMC.
  2. Staff, guests and contractors must download contract tracing apps (MySejahtera and COVIDTRACE).
  3. Online marketing for tour packages is encouraged as promotional exhibition and roadshows are not allowed
  4. National parks (NP) under the management for Sarawak Forestry Corporation will be opened in stages on 17th June and 22nd
  5. Kubah NP, Gunung Gading NP, Tanjung Datu NP, Santubong NP, Talang-Satang NP, Wind/Fairy Cave NP, Batang Ai NP, Samajaya NP, Maludam NP, Gunung Mulu NP, Lambir NP, Niah NP, Loagan Bunut NP and Pulong Tau NP will be reopened on June 17.
  6. Bako NP, Semenggoh Wildlife Center, Kuching Wetland NP and Miri-Sibuti Coral Reef NP will be reopened on June 22.
  7. Activities such as national parks, leisure and adventure activities, nature walk, caving, snorkelling and scuba diving with or without company of park guide, wildlife viewing activities, and expedition activities in totally protected areas and wildlife centres will be allowed.
  8. Only a maximum of 10 pax per group is allowed to enter at any time trail for leisure trekking.
  9. Only a minimum of two and maximum of eight people per group are allowed to enter at any one time per trail for adventure activity.
  10. Only forest trails not exceeding a three to five-hour walk will be allowed access.
  11. A minimum of two and a maximum of eight per group are allowed to enter at any time with a required guide for adventure caving.
