For Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (HASiL), maintaining close collaboration with the media is crucial in ensuring widespread coverage and publicity about its activities, especially taxation programmes that it organises from time to time.
This in turn supports the agency’s efforts to convey information and knowledge to the public concerning the national taxation ecosystem and the importance of taxation in socio-economic development, noted its chief executive officer YBhg Datuk Dr. Mohd Nizom bin Sairi during HASiL’s Majlis Berbuka Puasa dan Apresiasi Media Sarawak 2023 in Kuching on 4 April 2023.
The event served not only as a platform to appreciate the services and role of the media as a taxation information disseminating agency, but also an opportunity to further strengthen the already established relationship between HASiL and media practitioners.
“Today, we don’t just want to be known as an enforcement agency…. Our more important role is being a facilitator, ensuring that tax compliance becomes easier for taxpayers,” said Datuk Dr. Mohd Nizom on the agency’s ongoing endeavour to shift public perception on its roles and functions.
He explained that by utilising the Awareness, Education and Services (AES) approach in its initiatives, the agency strives to make itself more approachable for businesses and individuals to seek advice on matters pertaining to taxation in Malaysia.
Together with the media highlighting their efforts through continuous coverage and publicity, HASiL will be able to boost people’s confidence in its services so that the rate of compliance with the country’s taxation legislation can be increased.
