SDO's Projects in Miri and the Baram

Success stories in the arena of developing Sarawak evoke a sense of
pride and unity amongst the people of this great state, even more so as the
targeted focus of 2020 is close towards becoming a reality. The year of 2006
brought a success rate of 98 percent for the State Development Office’s
(SDO) projects that were implemented in the areas of Miri and the Baram.

Public Infrastructure Maintenance
(PIA) Projects

The job
scope of the PIA projects that were carried out in 2006 included infrastructure
maintenance and quality-improving measures towards government buildings,
including:

• The repairing of
  fences, guard houses, entrance/exit ways, floors, walls, roofs, rain-water
  flowage systems, toilets, water pipe systems, drains, sewage systems and roads
• The
  repairing/rewiring of electrical systems (excluding air conditioners)

The objectives
of these projects were to repair and restore the government-owned buildings and
facilities so as to provide the utmost comfort for its users, noting the importance
of quality maintenance. The overall total cost of the 2006 PIA projects in Miri
and the Baram reached RM 10.666 million.

Rural Basic Infrastructure
Development (PIAS) Projects

The PIAS projects that were carried out in
2006 included:

• The construction, repairing and
  improvement of small bridges, culverts/gabions, small jetties, drains and
  village and plantation roads

The
objective of these projects was to provide the people of Miri and the Baram
with basic infrastructure amenities. The 2006 PIAS projects in these areas
totalled to RM 10.433 million.

Let us hope that
2007 will bring even more developmental success in Miri and the Baram,
subsequently bringing forth the realisation of the 9^th Malaysia Plan
(9MP) for Sarawak.

A total of 305 projects were implemented,
with the breakdown of projects as seen in the following:

The reinforcement of a concrete step-down slope in Kampung Long Moh, Baram	The newly completed belian bridge of SK Buri, Bakong, Baram
Making way for a connecting gravel road from Kampung Tiris to Kampung Rancah-Rancah, Miri	The completed Kampung Tiris-Kampung Rancah-Rancah gravel road
