Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud recently presented the Loyalty Civil Service medals awards to 370 recipients in an investiture ceremony held at the Dewan Santapan, Bangunan Dewan Undangan Negeri Lama, Petra Jaya.
In his foreword message in the souvenir programme, Pehin Sri Taib urged the civil service to adapt and compete globally and strengthen national unity.
The government recently launched the Graduate Development Ability Programme which provided a self-skilled improvement among job seekers that suit their qualifications.
Chief Minister also hoped that the state civil service with its diverse cultural background and racial balance would always prevail.
Heading the list of the recipients was a Mechanical Engineer, Wong Wen Ang from the Water Supply Section, Public Works Department, Sarawak who served for 27 years in the state civil service.
Diplomatic Administrative Officer (PTD) of Malaysia Public Service Department, Sarawak Division (Post Service Division), Siti Hajar Abdul Rahman and Oral Surgeon, Sarawak General Hospital, Dr Tay Keng Keong are among the others recipients.
The Education Department with 130 recipients heads the list followed by Medical and Health Services Department (87), Public Works Department Sarawak (30), Royal Custom Department (28),Forest Department Sarawak (24),Marine Department Sarawak (20), Brooke Dockyard (17), Statistics Department, Sarawak Branch (16), Malaysia Public Service Department, Post Service Division, Sarawak Branch (10) and Drainage and Irrigation Department Sarawak (8).
Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu ak Numpang, Speaker of Dewan Undangan Negeri, Dato Sri Haji Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, State Secretary, Datuk Haji Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Federal Secretary, Md Yahaya Basimin, Assistant Minister in The Chief Minister Department, Larry Sng Wei Shien, Deputy State Secretary, Datu Ose Murang, heads of government departments and community leaders.
