“Heritage for Unity” Design Competition Launched

Must read

KUCHING, Oct 20, 2011:  “A diversified cultural setting of Sarawak is a binding factor for all to live harmoniously and collectively,” said Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Alfred Jabu anak Numpang when launching the “Heritage for Unity” Design Competition at a press conference yesterday.

The Design Competition is one of the activities lined up for the Sarawak Youth For Unity 2011 event launched earlier this year by YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak who is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS).

Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) is the main organiser of this competition, together with Sarawak Development Institute and Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd.

The competition, which is open to all Sarawakians between 18 to 35 years of age, invites those artistically-inclined to create an artwork or illustration that best depicts the unity among Sarawakians.

“This is a unique opportunity for designers to express their artistic interpretation combining or blending ethnic elements of the design heritage of each of the various races in Sarawak,” said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Alfred Jabu anak Numpang, Deputy Chief Minister who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustee for YPS.

At the press conference yesterday, Datuk Patinggi Jabu mentioned that, “Regardless of their race, religion and culture, all youths are equally important assets that blend together. They can explore anything with their imagination and combining the various ethnic elements into one artwork and illustration. Do not stop their imagination,” he said yesterday during a press conference on the upcoming Heritage for Unity-Design Competition.

Sarawak prides itself as a leader in exemplifying “unity in diversity” and this competition plays a significant role in demonstrating the importance of unity among our communities. The ‘Heritage for Unity’ Design Competition is aimed to encourage artistic talents to create an artwork or illustration that will symbolise this spirit of “unity in diversity” esteemed in Sarawak.

Final day of submission for the ‘Heritage for Unity’ design competition is 31st January 2012.
