Assistant Minister at the Chief Minister’s Office (Promotion of Technical Education) and Assistant Minister for Environment Sarawak YB Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh (centre) announcing the upcoming World Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference 2015 during a press conference on 13 August 2015.

The World TVET Conference 2015 to be held from 25 to 27 August 2015 at Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching (BCCK), is expected to be officiated by Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Haji Satem.

Themed “Quantum Leap: Transformation and Globalisation of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) – Living Skills in the 21st Century”, the three-day conference aims to become a platform to leverage TVET, presenting technical vocational education as an equally attractive choice as university education and thereby urging countries around the world to prioritise TVET in the mainstream to ensure youths are equipped with skills and ready for current and future job markets.

Additionally, this conference hopes to be able to impart the latest trend on current issues of human resource development, particularly in TVET besides benchmarking best practices on human resource development strategies, sharing knowledge and experiences on TVET, and expand networks.

Organised by Sarawak Skills Development Centre (or Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak, PPKS) in collaboration with Tabung Gagasan Ekonomi Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (TEGAS) and International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA), the conference will feature international and local speakers in paper presentations, workshop sessions and poster presentations, plus an education fair dedicated to promote skills training in Malaysia.

Over 1,000 participants consisting of TVET practitioners, university lecturers, parents and especially students, among others, are expected to attend the conference.
