The abolishment which takes effect today (15 March 2016) is applicable to smallholder agriculture land (less than 100 acres) and residential land; all arrears and surcharges on these lands, if any, are hereby waived.
The decision announced by the Chief Minister will affect 360,422 titles with land rent amounting to RM8.58 million (19 per cent of total land rent), in which 173,752 titles belong to smallholder agriculture land with land rent amounting to RM3.62 million (8 per cent) while the remaining 186,670 titles are residential land amounting to RM4.96 million (11 per cent).
At present, Sarawak is the first state in Malaysia to implement this policy.
