SarawakPay to be Introduced Next Year

The Sarawak Chief Minister announced that the State government will introduce its own payment apps, SarawakPay by next year.

“We just got an approval from Bank Negara last week to have our own apps where payment through one portal, that is SarawakPay,” said Sarawak Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Datuk Abang Haji Openg during the Forum Belia TEGAS (FBT) on October 14th.

Speaking during the FBT at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), he said that the digital payment service which can be made using smart phone through the apps needed the approval from the Bank Negara.

Payment service includes all government services such as land rent and assessment rate can be made through the apps.

“This is one step that we are introducing for e-payment between the government services and the people,” he said.

In September, YAB Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Datuk Abang Haji Openg announced that the State will be working with Chinese multinational company Huawei to develop the digital payment service.

YAB Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Datuk Abang Haji Openg said that the details on the digital payment service will be further announced soon.
