The amendment of the State land Code is set to be tabled during State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting in July, said Deputy Chief Minister YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah who is also the Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, a committee under YB Datu Jaul Samion will be set up to study the proposal on the definition of pemakai menua (territorial domain) and pulau galau (communal forest reserve).
The proposal on the definition of pemakai menua and pulau galau would later on be presented to the Task Force under YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.
YB Datuk Amar Douglas added that Task Force will study any relevant proposal and suggestions from various sides that may assist them in finding the right solution for the proposal amendment.
“The government under the leadership of the Chief Minister has agreed to amend the land code to resolve the issue that custom pemakai menua and pulau galau has no force of law,”
“We will be working out towards amending the Land Code so that pemakai menua and pulau galau will have the force of law and be recognised by the government,” said YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.
The two days land conference from January 24th to 25th saw about 450 participants including community leaders from native groups throughout the State came together and presenting their suggestions to resolve the issue on the definition of pemakai menua and pulau galau for the purpose of amending the State Land Code.
