Adhering to the vision of becoming a smart city, Kuching saw the launching of Sacofa Open Fibre Infra Access (SOFIA) during the launching ceremony of DBKU Agenda 2018.
According to Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg who was present during the launching of SOFIA on January 27th at Waterfront Kuching, said that as an infrastructure to the public community, SOFIA provides high speed internet connection through fibre optic connection to the people in Kuching.
SOFIA is essentially an enabler that allows existing service providers such as Celcom and Reach 10 to offer broadband services in Sarawak.
It is anticipated to attract reputable international players such as Myrepublic vis DST, which bring more affordable and competitive prices to Sarawak.
SOFIA facilitates triple-play features consisting of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Internet Protocal television (IPTV), and High-Speed Internet (HSI), which is a catalyst for increased adoption and utilisation of Internet of Things (IoT).
The platform has been deployed in key areas in Sarawak such as Samalaju in Bintulu, Satok and The Isthmus in Kuching.
As of now, Sacofa is currently in process of deploying its fibre infrastructure across other areas in the State.
