Sarawak Malays Urged to Keep Pace with Digital Technology

Must read

The Malay community in Sarawak need to take advantage of the latest digital technology to achieve socio-economic excellence for themselves and the State.

Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg stressed this in his remarks during the adjournment of the 7th Sarawak Malay Culture Seminar at a hotel in Kuching on 31 October 2018.

He added that this is especially the case for businesses to utilise the Internet and digital technology in order to reach out to more local and international markets.

“This means we must have the knowledge and capability to go global; if we want to go global, then we must adopt new approaches,” he said.

In relation, the Sarawak State Government continues to construct basic infrastructure such as water supply, electricity and roads to ensure that more digital infrastructure can be set up across the State.

The Chief Minister noted that providing these infrastructures would then enhance Internet connectivity, giving Sarawakians especially in rural areas access to go online and reap the benefits of digital technology.

Meanwhile, the 7th Sarawak Malay Culture Seminar themed “Managing Culture in the Digital Era” was organised by the Malay Culture Foundation Charitable Trusts Sarawak (AKYBMS) from 29 to 31 October 2018.

Over 1,000 participants comprising professionals, academicians, social activists, students and community leaders from all over Sarawak attended the event.

The seminar, which is held once in every five years, is designed as a platform for the Sarawak Malay community to express their views on various topics.

In the 7th edition, these included history, religion and culture; politics; education; economy; social; rural development; the leadership of Sarawak Malay/Islam NGOs; and the role and perspective of Sarawak Malay youths.

The resolution from the three-day seminar was read and presented to the Chief Minister by General Manager of AKYBMS YBhg Datu Dr Haji Sanib Haji Said, who was also the chairman of the seminar’s implementation committee.
