Some 85 percent of Malaysia, People First Performance Now Concept, Information Department Director General, Dato” Abdullah Morad said.
He said through the department”s activities such as civic assemblies, Komuniti 1Malaysia, Kelab Setia, special briefings, merdeka month activities, among others, more people had understand the concept.
He said this at a reception held in conjunction with a two-day briefing session for information officers held at a leading hotel in the city.
More than 100 officers of the departments including divisional and district information officers statewide attended the briefings which was then followed by a workshop on the yearly targeted task (sasaran kerja tahunan).
Dato” Morad said the Information Department was the main department carrying out the 1Malaysia campaign at the ground level while RTM had helped to promote the concept through the electronic media.
Earlier, in the afternoon, he told the officers present that the department was undergoing a transformation programme this year.
He said among the new programmes to be introduced were strategic Information policy, information data bank, research and cyber media, mastering the English language and a new set of guidelines on the use of the public address system.
He said at certain times, the department spent too much time to set up the use of the public address system for other departments and agencies so much so it had distrupted the implementation of the department”s own activities and programmes.
As such, the usage had to be reviewed to enable the department to successfully carry out its own planned activities.
He also expressed his wish to see the department to be the one-stop information gateway through the department”s Pusat Maklumat Rakyat website (People”s Information Centre) which now garnered seven million hits.
Dato” Morad also called on his officers to maintain and improve their expertise in the field of public relations, psychological warfare, issues management, art and visual, event manangement and managing the election.
Also present were the State Information Department Director and Deputy Director, Resat Salleh and Sharifah Mariam Syed Dawilah respectively.
