Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) Unveils Official Logo

Must read

KUCHING, 25 October 2011:  Chief Minister Pehn Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday unveiled the official logo for Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS).

The logo, designed by Miss Ellie Yong, an 18-year old student, was the winning entry of the YPS Logo Design Competition, which was organised early this year.

The Chief Minister, who is also Chairman of the YPS Board of Trustees, presented prizes to the competition’s top three winners and also letters of appreciation to all eight competition finalists during the simple logo-unveiling ceremony held at his office in Petra Jaya, here.

The YPS logo depicts images of youth of different ethnic backgrounds, musical instruments and other ethnic design elements to embody the Sarawak spirit of “unity and harmony in diversity” among Sarawakians and was inspired by the people, culture and heritage of Sarawak.

The use of the word ‘unity’ on the drum represents the organisation’s theme of promoting unity, whereas the diversity of races portrays a willingness to unite, as seen through the faces of the youth on the logo that reflect an eagerness to bring Sarawak forward.

The logo design competition, which was held from March 3 to May 31 this year, received a good response from Sarawak’s youth, aged between 16 and 25 years, with 130 submissions received from throughout the State.

The top three entries, which were picked by the YPS Board of Trustees Chairman, were chosen from among eight short-listed designs.

For her winning entry, Miss Ellie Yong received a cash prize of RM 3,000, whereas first runner-up Miss Tang Sing Moi received a cash prize worth RM 2,000 followed by second runner-up Mr. Muhammad Mateen Bin Poster who took home RM 1,000.

The YPS Logo Design Competition was one of the first activities initiated under the ‘Sarawak Youth for Unity Year’ programme launched by the Chief Minister on January 18 earlier this year.

Among those present to witness the logo-unveiling were Deputy Chief Minister and YPS Board of Trustees Deputy Chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu anak Numpang and Datu Aloysius Dris, CEO of Sarawak Development Institute and also a Board Member to Faradale Media-M.

YPS is a non-profit organisation that aims to promote, sustain and strengthen the spirit of unity and harmony that Sarawakians now enjoy.

Other events lined up for the ‘Sarawak Youth for Unity Year’ are the ‘Inter-Cultural Youth Forum’, ‘Dialogue with Sarawak Youth’, ‘Unity Lecture Series’, ‘Short Film Competition’ and ‘International Youth Cultural Conference’.

YPS co-organises these events with Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) and Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd, which is a subsidiary of Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM).
